Your 2-Minute Huddle for Everything Hoops!
What’s up hoop fans, welcome to another Full Timeout. I’m not gonna lie balancing this and my 9-5 is starting to get a lot better. My goal is to be consistent at dropping the same day every week, but for now please bear with me.

Meme of the Week → LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets have looked exciting, at least offensively, thus far to start the season. But of course leave it up to LaMelo to do something like this:
🗞 Full Court Press
G League Player Signs with Louisville → London Johnson, a former three season G League player, has committed to Louisville. This means pros can now go back to college to hoop. Johnson decided to forgo his eligibility in 2022 when he chose to join G League Ignite. This now raises more questions about the requirements for NCAA eligibility.
Chauncey Billups and Scary Terry Booked → Portland Trailblazers head coach and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier were swept up in federal indictments this past week involving sports betting and upside-down poker games. The league’s integrity just got an asterisk by it, and yes — this might be the wildest off-court storyline of the year.
Bulls & Spurs Off to a 5-0 Start → Can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Bulls are off to a 5-0 start, their best since the ’96-97 era. Leaning on depth, Josh Giddey (22.2 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 9 APG, and 40% behind the arc), and Matas Buzelis (15.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 1.2 APG), posting all career highs so far. Meanwhile, the Spurs just posted a franchise record for first ever 5-0 start, anchored by Victor Wembanyama who dropped 27 points, 18 boards, 6 assists and 5 blocks in a win vs Miami that sealed the streak.
What They Feeding These Freshmen → The 2025 freshman class is hooping like they’re league-ready. Darryn Peterson exploded for 26 points and 5 steals in just 25 minutes during his exhibition debut for the Kansas Jayhawks. Meanwhile, Cameron Boozer at Duke racked up 24 points and 23 rebounds in his exhibition game vs Tennessee — yes, you read that right. Not to mention Aj Dybantsa has also been balling, dropping 30 & 18 points in his first two exhibition games. Teams around the NBA will be locked in to see all this talent college basketball has to offer this season.

🎓 NCAA Take of the Week → The Hoyas Are Back!

Image by Full Timeout via AI-generated graphic
The Hoyas pulled up to Kentucky and came to play — stealing an 84-70 win vs the Wildcats in a preseason exhibition at Rupp Arena. Sure, Kentucky was missing three starters, but come on — you still don’t walk into Lexington and pull that without some kind of talent. Georgetown quietly reloaded via the portal, grabbing the likes of Malik Mack (transfer from Harvard) along with other strong additions such as KJ Lewis, Langston Love, and Isaiah Abraham. Mack dropped 22 points in that win with great efficiency and showed why the Hoyas might actually be a sleeper for a March run.

🏀 NBA Take of the Week → Who Will Win Rookie of the Year?

Image by Full Timeout via AI-generated graphic
This rookie class is already making lots of noise. VJ Edgecombe is averaging 20.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 5.0 APG, and currently sits at #1 on the rookie ladder. Behind him, Dylan Harper (~ 14.0 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 3.8 APG) and Cooper Flagg (~ 13.6 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 2.9 APG) are trailing, while Kon Knueppel is quietly creeping into the mix. As for the dark horses? keep an eye on names like Cedric Coward (averaging 15.3 PPG) and others making early jumps. My pick? Vj Edgecombe takes it — he’s got the scoring, athleticism, work ethic, and the early momentum. Not to mention he once said he grew up off a generator… yeah, my money’s on him. But let me know who you think takes the honors? And if not one of these four is there another candidate ready to swoop in?

🗣 Community Take of the Week → Will the Warriors Trade Jonothan Kuminga This Year? -@Fulltimeout_

Image by Kirk Goldsberry via Instagram
Kuminga’s been balling this season — averaging ~17.4 PPG on 53.1% from the FG and 7.1 RPG. Meanwhile, the Warriors are off to a hot start scoring ~117.6 PPG, but here’s the catch, they give up ~54.3 PPG in the paint, ranking among the worst in the league, via Kirk Goldsberry on Instagram. Do they keep Kuminga, ride out his trajectory (he’s showing All-Star flashes), or do they shop him to fix the obvious paint issue by getting a true center? My take, they keep him. You don’t just let a 23-year-old wing hitting this stride in his career walk, unless you can get something similar if not better in return. Full transparency — they’ve got to address the paint. Al Horford might fill part of that gap, but he’s not the long-term answer down low.

🟢 Trending Up:
Philadelphia 76ers: Vj has given the 76ers a burst they desperately needed. Tyrese Maxey also picked up right where he left off. Can’t wait to see this team fully healthy.
Los Angeles Lakers: No LeBron, no problem. Luka Dončić is looking like an MVP and Austin Reaves betting on himself this offseason looks to have worked in his favor.
Portland Trailblazers: Even with all the noise, the future looks optimistic in Portland. If they can add some offensive prowess to their defense, watch out.
🔴 Trending Down:
New Orleans Pelicans: Worst offense in the league = 0-6 start. Needs time to gel.
Dallas Mavericks: They can’t score either sadly.
Indiana Pacers: WTHelly-Burton!

🟢 Trending Up:
North Carolina: Don’t sleep on the Heels. In their exhibition against BYU they looked tuff. Caleb Wilson is a dog!
Arkansas: Bringing back key returners while adding Meleek Thomas and Darius Acuff to the backcourt, the Razorbacks look poised to make another deep tourney run.
Arizona: Koa Peat looks like a top 5 pick and this team still has plenty of room for growth.
🔴 Trending Down:
Gonzaga: I just don’t see how they score enough points to match top talent.
Florida: Soft.
Auburn: Completely different team from last year. Tahaad Pettiford and Keyshawn Hall will be fun to watch though.

🍿 Games of the Week
Kansas v. North Carolina (Nov. 7)

Image by Full Timeout via AI-generated graphic
Caleb Wilson vs. Darryn Peterson might be the freshman matchup of the year — both already look league-ready. UNC is deeper than people think, Henri Veesaar (Arizona transfer) and Kyan Evans (Colorado State transfer) have quietly fit right in. But they’ll have to slow down Peterson if they want to control the game. Not to mention, Flory Bidunga is a problem in the paint — we’ll see how the UNC bigs fare against a dominant presence like him.
🎯 Full Timeout Pick: North Carolina
Houston Rockets v. San Antonio Spurs (Nov. 7)
The Spurs are off to a hot start, but Houston’s offense has been elite — best in the league so far. With NBA Cup stakes on the line, this one’s got extra tension. Both squads are dominant inside, so it’ll come down to shot-making. If the Rockets’ perimeter guys catch fire, the Spurs might be cooked. But if Wemby keeps controling the paint, San Antonio could keep this thing rolling. Either way, expect playoff energy come Friday night.
🎯 Full Timeout Pick: Rockets
